Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2025

We care about your privacy. This Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, how long we keep it, and your rights. It applies to purchases and use of our courses, membership, and digital downloads hosted on Teachable.

Who we are. Spanish Reasons Ltd. (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for your personal data when you buy or use our products.

Platform provider. Our courses run on Teachable, part of Hotmart Company. Teachable provides the platform and acts as our data processor for “Creator Content” and, for certain “Student Data” it collects, Teachable and we each act as independent controllers for our respective purposes (see 3. Student Data & roles below). Teachable’s own Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy also apply when you use the platform.

1) Data we collect

  • Account & contact details: name, email, country, language preferences.
  • Purchase details: product purchased, price, currency, VAT info, partial billing data (never full card number).
  • Course activity: enrollments, progress, completion, assessments/quizzes, certificates, messages sent via the platform.
  • Support: messages you send us (email/contact form) and our responses.
  • Device/usage data (via Teachable): IP address, device/browser info, log data, cookies/analytics (managed by Teachable).
  • Data we receive from Teachable about you (Student Data): To deliver and support your course, we receive: name, email, purchase/billing details (never your full card number), IP address, course enrollments, progress, test results, certificates, and messages exchanged via the platform.

Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe and/or PayPal on Teachable. We do not see or store your full card number.
Not used: We do not use HotPay/Hotmart Card.

2) Why we use your data (purposes)

  • Provide access to courses/membership/digital products.
  • Handle orders, receipts, tax/VAT, and basic accounting.
  • Communicate about your account, content updates, certificates, support.
  • Prevent misuse and protect the security of our courses and community.
  • Understand overall course performance (high-level service analytics).
  • Where you opt in: send helpful updates or offers.

3) Lawful bases & roles

Our lawful bases under UK GDPR/EU GDPR:

  • Contract: to deliver the products you purchased (access, support, certificates).
  • Legitimate interests: service analytics, fraud prevention, platform security, improving learner experience (balanced against your rights).
  • Legal obligation: tax/audit/record-keeping.
  • Consent: where you opt in to receive marketing communications.

Student Data roles (very important)
For certain Student Data that Teachable collects and shares with us (see Section 1), Teachable and Spanish Reasons Ltd. are independent controllers for our respective uses.

  • Teachable’s use is governed by the Teachable/Hotmart Privacy Policy.
  • Our use is governed by this Policy.

4) Cookies & ads

On Teachable pages, cookie consent, advertising and analytics cookies are managed by Teachable under their own Cookies/Privacy Policies.
We do not place additional tracking cookies on Teachable course pages beyond what Teachable controls.

5) Sharing your data

We share data only when necessary:

  • Teachable (Hotmart Company): to host and operate your courses and manage your account on the platform.
  • Payment processors: Stripe/PayPal for transactions (we don’t see your full card).
  • Email service: MailerLite (or equivalent) for essential messages and opt-in updates.
  • Legal/compliance: authorities or advisers where required by law or to protect our rights.
  • Integrations you use (e.g., YouTube, Zoom, Google, Facebook): your data is processed by those providers under their own privacy policies; we receive only limited data necessary to run the course and support you.

6) International transfers

Your data may be transferred outside the UK/EU (for example, to the US where Teachable, MailerLite, Stripe/PayPal operate).
We and our providers use lawful safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and, where relevant, the UK Addendum.
Teachable is part of Hotmart Company; where data is shared within that group or with subprocessors outside the UK/EU, Teachable states it uses SCCs and comparable safeguards.

7) Retention

  • Accounts & purchases: kept for the life of your account + 6 years for tax/audit, unless a longer period is legally required.
  • Teachable-sourced Student Data (enrollments, progress, certificates, support needs): kept for the life of your account + 6 years for tax/audit.
  • Support messages: typically kept up to 24 months after resolution (unless needed longer for legal reasons).

We delete or anonymize data when no longer necessary.

8) Security

We use reasonable organizational and technical measures to protect your data (restricted access, need-to-know, secure providers). Our providers (e.g., Teachable, Stripe, PayPal, MailerLite, etc.) also apply industry-standard security measures.
No system is 100% secure, but we work to minimize risks. Your device hygiene (updates, passwords, phishing awareness) also matters.

9) Your rights

Under UK/EU GDPR, you can:

  • Access your data, correct inaccuracies, delete where appropriate.
  • Object or restrict certain processing; request portability.
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on consent (e.g., marketing).
  • Complain to a supervisory authority (e.g., UK ICO or your local data protection authority in the EU).

Who to contact (so you reach the right place fast):

  • For data we control (purchases, student records, certificates, support): contact us at [email protected]
  • For data Teachable controls (platform account, login, device/usage data, Teachable cookies), contact [email protected] or use Teachable’s privacy form.
We will coordinate with Teachable where appropriate.

10) Children’s data

Our services are for adults (18+).
Teachable does not knowingly allow accounts for children under 13.
Although Teachable allows accounts from 13+, our courses are intended only for learners aged 18+.
If we learn a learner is under 18 (or under 13 on Teachable), we will close the account and delete personal data we control, keeping only what the law requires.

11) Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law or our services. Significant changes will be communicated by email or within your account on Teachable. Continued use after an update means you accept the new Policy.
